Students, faculty, and staff at Laurel Elementary School celebrated Veteran's Day on Monday, November 12, 2018, with a program called Breakfast with a Vet. Veterans from our community were invited to have breakfast with students and join them for a Veteran's Day Program. We were honored to have the Johnson County Honor Guard as our guests. They presented our nation's flag and a short program on flag history. Students from Laurel Elementary School had prepared cards for the veterans and were excited to give them to the veterans at the end of the program. We were delighted to have Megan McEwen, Johnson County Commissioner with us as well. She sang The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless the U.S.A. At the conclusion of the program, students created a celebration path for the veterans where they clapped, high-fived and shook hands with our visitors as the left the program. Students were treated to a book on flag history and U.S.A. pencils from the Johnson County Honor Guard along with a book for our school about The Star Spangled Banner from the Disabled American Vets. What a great opportunity for all of us! Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service!
